Once I've finished the entire series, I'd like to write about it in more detail, but for now, I've just started reading – I'm on the second volume – and I want to share my excitement. My enthusiasm as a reader, a player, and a teacher.

I spend a lot of time promoting board games, primarily from an educational perspective. I try to show as many people as possible how much potential board games have when used with pedagogical goals in mind—through lectures, workshops, training sessions, and informal conversations. Everywhere, to everyone, in every possible way. And in the meantime, I find this every possible way particularly fascinating.

That’s exactly why I think Hikaru no Go is a brilliant idea. And so far, it seems to me that it’s not just a great concept, but also an excellent execution.

Choosing a popular format—manga—and using it to introduce a classic game to contemporary young audiences is, in my opinion, incredibly cool.

The genre-specific elements are well in place, the story flows smoothly, and at the same time, it genuinely delves deep into Go with professional expertise.

This is really working for me right now. I love reading comics, even though manga isn’t necessarily my favorite format. But in general, I just love reading. Lately, I’ve been getting more and more interested in classic games, and I play them a lot with my daughter. I’m also making a conscious effort to deepen my understanding of Go.

As a teacher, I find motivation-based learning incredibly important, and this series is a fantastic example of that. So, I’ll read through the entire series and come back with a more detailed analysis. In the meantime, keep reading—even manga!—and play a lot, including classic games like Go.
