I’ve posted two longer pieces on the site recently, both about summer.
That probably comes as no surprise—it is summer, after all. In a way, it’s been summer for a while now, though school breaks don’t start at the same time everywhere.
This is the season when the kids are with us more, and we try to take some time off too. Which makes play—and board games in particular—even more important in our lives.
The two texts offer two different approaches, but they’re not mutually exclusive. In fact, in our case, we’re planning for both to shape our summer.
On one hand, we want to support our daughter’s mathematical development “invisibly” through playful board game activities—especially when it comes to her mindset and attitude toward math. This aligns with the spirit of board game-based pedagogy.
On the other hand, we’re also aiming to shift our mindset: to bring out more games that need minimal equipment—card games, dice games, pebble games.
We’d like to let go (even just a little) of that urge to consume that sneaks up on all of us.
If everything goes as we hope, we’ll have a summer full of games, experiences, and even growth.
Not bad, right?
