Máté Lencse

Máté Lencse

One of the most frequent questions I get is where the ideas for my board games come from. I tried to write a sentence for each of my published games.

Űrcsempészek - I was intrigued by the idea of turning a planning, bidding, and thinking mechanism into something frantic and fast-paced, creating something unusual yet functional.

Kiwi - A kiwi rolled across the subway floor, and I wondered where it would stop at the final station. Then I thought, could this be a game?

Rumini - Kincsesláda - The rhythmic play of a fountain and the interest of mistakes inspired a numismatic theme, which the publisher eventually dressed in a fairy-tale guise.

Tökmagok - Kincsvadászat - It was based on a school game: who could catch more falling leaves from the trees while they were still in the air (not easy). This concept was then placed underwater due to the theme, with currents instead of wind.

Abszolút megvadult betűk and Lajka - They were conceived together. I specifically thought about roll and write games using a bunch of laid-out tools and eventually developed them in the direction of color dice and letter dice.

Zoknifogócska and Hova bújtál, Boribon? - These were direct developments. I wanted to design a game for Bálint Harcos’s stories and Szofi's character. While rereading the books, I had two ideas: one stayed in this fairy-tale world, and the other was rethemed by the publisher.

Építs velem, Boribon! - I was reading the new Boribon book to my daughter when the image of stacked blue teddy bears morphed into the image of stacked blue dice, and the game was built around this.

Abszolút képtelen sztorik - After letters came words in the series, which I didn't create. I thought sentences and stories could come next, so I asked my editor for strong authorial help, and we created it together.

Varázslabor - I specifically wanted to design a party game based on rhythm, requiring observation and speed. Chaos was introduced during development, which I was very pleased with.

Zsolna és a Titkos Receptkönyv - I was commissioned to create this. After reading the book, I extracted four gameable scenes, and the publisher chose this idea from my suggestions.
