The Kiwi board game was first released in 2017, in an edition of 500 copies through a crowdfunding campaign by a non-profit organization, with the proceeds used to support the organization's operations. These 500 copies quickly sold out, and for years Kiwi has been unavailable, despite the continued demand and my own fondness for the game. (Incidentally, I had to obtain a copy from the first edition myself since I somehow lost my original one.)
About two years ago, my regular publisher, Pagony, agreed to release the game in larger numbers. With the wonderful new graphics by Tamás Mayer, Kiwi is embarking once again on its conquering journey, but this time with a larger army, greater expectations, and bigger challenges.
Kiwi is essentially a simple, family card game. We try to track the journey of a kiwi, which is nudged back and forth across the board by the cards we play. Without actually moving the kiwi, we mentally note its path and guess its location at the end of the turn. There are a few twists in the gameplay, but fundamentally, it's a game that requires concentration, observation, and working memory, primarily targeting elementary school-aged children.
Although it was released only in Hungary, Kiwi is completely language-independent, and I hope it will receive an international edition one day. It's good to dream. :)
