I’m right in the middle of a submission — always stressful. At this stage there wouldn’t normally be much left for me to do as a designer, but this time I’m working with a small company on their very first board game. We’re trying to help a lot with print preparation and communication, which can be a bit of a hassle. On the bright side, it’s being manufactured locally, so in just a few weeks I’ll be able to hold my game in my hands. I love it when the wait isn’t too long.

In the meantime, I’m already working on another commission. I’ve finished the first round of playtests and now I’m waiting for their graphic designer. This one’s a print-and-play game for teenagers about job hunting and writing CVs. That’s right! Most of my commissioned work is pointing in this direction now, and I was actually asked to design something like this. Maybe this was exactly what I needed to finally make the shift and try steering my career more consciously toward this kind of project.

Next week I’ll also continue the summer project we started at a camp. It’s about developing debating skills, essentially a dice-game version of an existing card game. Thanks to grant funding, there will be a few hundred physical copies, but we’ll also release a free print-and-play version.

It really seems like everyone wants me to make print-and-play games. Hooray! 🎉
