The other day, I was once again reminded that you can play board games anywhere, under any circumstances. It so happened that we couldn't finish our game (Doppelt so Clever) at the train station, so we had to continue on the train, where the three of us couldn't sit together.

Since then, I've been pondering the interesting and exciting situations we've played in. The first thing that came to mind was one of my favorite photos, where my friend and mentor, József Jesztl, is playing checkers on cardboard boxes at the edge of a football field.

This picture quickly reminded me of another favorite, where we're playing board games on unfolded boxes, also at the edge of a football field. It's not the outdoor gaming that's surprising—I have many experiences of that—but Carcassonne isn't typically a travel/outdoor game.

It's probably no surprise then that József Jesztl and I created an outdoor, hiking-themed board game book, "Manóváros."

But I've also played on a football field. (Not just football, but PIT as well.)

And by a ditch.

And I've played a lot on trains, even Go.
